In
addition to the ongoing art workshop programme, Art in Hospital
undertakes many special projects ranging from acting as consultants,
to the delivery of pilot projects.
We also undertake regular short projects in specific art media.
Over the years these have included printmaking, photography
and textiles. This has recently involved digital media including
video and computer generated animation.
Through
attending national and international conferences, the organisation
has built up a network of contacts in the arts in healthcare.
With support from the British Council, this has led to a number
of European collaborations.

Pilot
Projects
Art
in Hospital is regularly approached to undertake pilot projects.
These are evaluated and, if successful, hopefully lead to
longer term projects. The following present a few examples
of recent pilot projects:

Chest,
Heart & Stroke, Scotland
This
initiative was originally proposed by Speech and Language
Therapy at Glasgow Royal Infirmary as part of the rehabilitation
programme for people recovering from strokes. Artists from
Art in Hospital undertook a series of workshops for the Chest,
Heart & Stroke, Scotland group at Hogganfield Loch Church
Hall, Glasgow in 2001.
The
workshops were extremely successful, and the project became
part of the Hospital and the Community Project at Greenfield
Park Nursing Home, with members of the group attending regular
workshops in 2002. |

Epilepsy
Connections
This
project took the form of a series of 8 workshops for people
with epilepsy held in the art centre in Blawarthill Hospital
in 2001, and was evaluated by Debra Hopkins.
The
pilot project has led to Art in Hospital providing regular
workshops for Epilepsy Connections which are held in Partick
Healthy Living Centre. Subsequent projects have included papermaking,
an artist book project, printmaking, and a digital media project
for International
Day of Disabled People 2002. |

Prince
& Princess of Wales Hospice
A 12-week pilot project from December 2001 to March 2002 was established at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice to introduce the arts into palliative care. The project was funded by Glasgow City Council, Cultural & Leisure Services and delivered by Art in Hospital.
In 2003, The Scottish Arts Council funded a 2-year Arts in Palliative Care project. The core programme of visual arts is complemented by a Creative Writer-in-Residence.
The Project is now funded by the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice and is an integral part of the palliative care programme at the Hospice.

European
Connections
In October
2000 Art in Hospital began a series of initiatives in Europe
with The Spaces in Between, as part of the British
Council programme for Brussels 2000.
Entitled,
The Evident Need these include conferences and art
projects, with the aim to highlight and promote best practice
as well as showcasing the work carried out in arts and healthcare
in Scotland. This
will be set within the context of the work carried out by
Scotland Europa, which examines Scotland's position
in relation to other healthcare sectors in Europe.

L'Art
dans la Cité
Paris,
Madrid, Brussels, Glasgow 2003
A collaboration
with the Paris based organisation L'Art dans la Cité.
Artist residencies took place simultaneously in four European
cities. Glasgow artist, Janie Nicoll, spent a 3 month artist-in-
residence in Yorkhill children's hospital. There is a touring
exhibition visiting each of the four venues: Paris, Madrid,
Brussels, Glasgow; and a publication will be produced.
